Yeah I slept for four hours.
What of it?
As stated before, at least I finished that bloody paper and won't have to pull a White Night (an all nighter) again.
I'm not optimistic enough to think that this will be my last White Night... though it is my last in this particular course, which I will hopefully pass without too much humiliation.
With an exam in the same course in which I wrote the aforementioned paper on Wednesday and actual formal exam season starting in two weeks, my stress is up, though not as much as you'd think.
Staying up all night and going to sleep at dawn tends to mellow you out.
In any event, have a ( GIF )

Wish was being so cute lying on my notes and articles, I had to stop working (though obviously I'd stopped beforehand because I didn't stop him from spreading his mighty girth on all my papers!)

I had to share with you all.
I think we're cute together! ( Cat and Grrl )
Of course then he got annoyed: ( May not be work safe do to private cat parts being on unabashed display )

The Student Coalition at Tel Aviv University presents its 3rd extra-curricular, extra-political and extravagant course, Hurray!
This year, we will be discussing neo-liberalism and privatisation. How do these rather abstract concepts relate to different spheres of life in Israel/Palestine and what kind of influences do they have on various social groups?
We will also look into struggles and alternatives and investigate new forms of anti-capitalist action. You don't want to miss it.
Mondays, 18:00, Room 326, Gilman (Humanities) Building.
( Flyer and Course list )

So, did it feel good to not use LJ for a little bit.
Gotta say, I didn't feel any different, my Internet addiction just wet to different avenues.
the majority of my f-list participated whether it was consciously or not I couldn't say, but most of the communities didn't participate, which eh, kind of sucks since a huge amount of content and influence comes from the comm's and not individual users and such.
I really like LJ and I don't want to leave, the platform is convenient and fun, the networking done here is by far superior to MySpace and Facebook, in my opinion.
My paid account expires on the 14th on May (my birthday, duh) and I don't want to regress into a Plus account in which my LJ will be swarming with ads to do with things that what I write about would be significant.
Not.
Anyway, there were a few things worth blogging about, but they happened on Thursday and were properly resolved and on Friday when going out for Friday night supper was somewhat irritating due to constant racial slurs but people who say "I'm not racist, I love the black man" - when he's your gardener, quite obviously.
And Right Wing people who try to convince me that a vote for a fringe part is a Throw Away vote. Not it's not, it's voting for my principals.
Any way it was a really irritating evening, but at least I got to hang out with friends and Purim accessories.
Purim really washed over me this year - probably because I've come to associate Purim very strongly with terror attacks and there were only warnings this year with no actual explosions, shootings or kidnappings, there is however until Monday for a terror attack to be disconnected from the Holiday, so we'll see.
I mean yeah, I went all Ester and Vashti are ancient feminist icons (for different reasons obviously) and I went to Uni with butterfly antenes in order to get into the mood, on Wedensday, which is all before Purim, so nyah.
Pretty boring all in all.
Here's a pic which as
sabotabby said should be spread throughout the intertubes.

Wouldn't it make an excellent t-shirt?!

Is technically tomorrow on the 8th, but that's my Nephew Shvo's birthday and I don't want anything to overshadow that.
There was a panel at the Uni yesterday about "Body and Politics", which I couldn't attend in its entirety due to the fact that I actually, ya know, had courses to attend, well next year.
And my fave Women's Studies Prof smiled and waved at me *squee*
I have a cruch on my teacher, I never had those in high school and such... but blah, she's married with children, which doesn't make her any less cool.

I went to Bil'in today, as it was the three year anniversary for the struggle against the Separation Wall (which in that area is a fence) and to mark the half year mark since the Supreme High Court declared the path of the fence to be moved.
This hasn't happened and the weekly demonstrations have and will continue.
This was my first demo in the area so I stayed on the hill and didn't go into the wadi and as such avoided the actual "action" of being tear gassed and shot at with rubber bullets. Today twenty or so activists were injured (one had to be evacuated to hospital, thankfully there was Red Crescent presence) from the soldiers actions and one soldier was injured from a stone thrown at him.
I managed to take some pictures that weren't total crap with my obsolete Point & Shoot Digital Cam: ( Don't Miss Them )
We arrived there at about 11:30, began marching at 12:30, began disperding at around 15:00, I got home at 17:30.
Long, good and productive day, I feel.

Hello f-list.
A friend (
daemonfall) chibified me and having much appreciation to the drawing asked him to iconize it!
Which he did.
But he did something extra!

I want to make one of those my default.
So f-list I ask you... which do you like, even though I'll have to chose in the end :D

I saw The Golden Compass last night with Tami.
It was quite good, very beautiful visually and the actors were good, except for the heroine, Lyra, who sucked... hopefully she'll pull a Daniel Radcliff and improve for the second and third movies.
The Soundtrack left much to be desired as well, but oh the panorama and visual effects! You could really believe a world like that existed!
By far the best thing in the entire movie was ( her )
Now I'm rereading the books, because I'd forgotten a ton of details and kept asking Tami to remind of things I knew weren't accurate, but couldn't put my finger on. I have all three books the "His Dark Materials" trilogy by Phillip Pullman, which I encourage all the sci-fi/fantasy readers on my f-lest to read and definitely recommend to any and all "regular" book readers, it's just too good a trilogy to pass.
This movie was far superior to every "Harry Potter" movie I've seen to date and the books are also much better written and have a much deeper and more subtle message than "Harry Potter" - which, despite my obsession with the series, I know it to be a very simplistic reading of our world.
"His dark Materials" is beautifully crafted and written, but alas, unlike JKR, Phillip Pullman writes controversy into the books themselves, thus making them less "marketable" than the HP series. Even with the movie and coming franchise of "The Golden Compass" and its sequels, it will never garner as much popularity as HP, simply because the story, from its inception, is not suitable for people under the age of 15, IMO.
The violence and sexuality in "His Dark Materials" is far more apparent and important than in HP, in which sexuality is seen humourously and not so much discussed as the characters grow up, and the violence is so much more casual. In "His Dark Materials", the violence and sexuality are seen as an intricate part of humanity, that if taken away for a "Greater Good", the people are no longer... "people".

Amnesty International has launched a new ad campaign to raise awareness for the fight against female genital mutilation.
Pandagon and Feministing have already posted about it.
I found the ads very evocative: ( Pictures under the cut )
I think it details the meaningless destruction of something beautiful, without making it look obscene or cliched.
Flowers have more often than not been used to describe or be a euphemism for female genitalia, not just the vagina, but the vulva, the clitoris, the labia majora and minora, and of course we can't not think of famous painter Georgia O'Keef who made famous the use of flowers to describe the beauty and sexuality of female genitalia.
I've heard from people that it is now considered cliche to use flowers as genitalia, but I think in this ad campaign it is used excellently, because the flowers evoke innocence, which is exactly what these (most usually) pre-pubesant girls lose when they are mutilated in such a way.
I'd love to hear what y'all think.
